The holiday season seems to bring two things: heartfelt contributions to help those in need… and shopping. In a way it’s a funny combination, but when shopping for the perfect gift for a loved one also benefits a charity, it’s a wonderful way to do your holiday shopping. For the second year in a row, Walnut Grove Travel will be hosting an annual craft fair to benefit a local family through the Langley Christmas Bureau. Read on to learn about this event that’s becoming a local holiday tradition.

“It was a very humbling moment knowing that you were going to give a family Christmas that they wouldn’t have without our support”.

Our box getting filled with food donations

For it’s first annual Christmas craft fair, Walnut Grove Travel raised $750 for a family in need registered with the Langley Christmas Bureau. The company hopes to turn this into an ongoing tradition to help benefit the community they serve. For it’s inaugural event there was a variety of fairs to choose from: everything from stocking stuffers to larger items.
Goodies up for grabs included painted wine glasses to hand- sewn placemats, table runners, and napkins; seasonal items were also for sale- everything from wreaths and candles to aprons and homemade treats. Shoppers could find something for everyone on their lists. This year the company will offer up the same great range of wares to help you get ready for the holidays while helping a family in need- what better way to shop?

There was something for everyone

When asked what their favourite part of the event was, the staff agreed that taking the proceeds to go shopping for their sponsored family was the highlight. For the staff member and her husband who had the opportunity to deliver the gifts and groceries, it was a heart warming experience to meet the family they were helping and to see their expressions when they received their hamper. Said the staff member: “It was a very humbling moment knowing that you were going to give a family Christmas that they wouldn’t have without our support”.

Cathy is already getting started for this year

This year Walnut Grove Travel hopes to continue this tradition and ensure that another family doesn’t go without during the holidays. At a time of year when we reflect on how lucky we are, this is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a local family. We often hear about those in need half a world away, but we have countless individuals who need our help and support right here at home.
If you would like to support these wonderful efforts, you can contact Walnut Grove Travel at 604-888-6020. If you are interested in participating as a vendor, contact Cathy, Marica, or Sandy at the number above or via email at walnutgrovetravel@shaw.ca.
This year’s Craft Fair will take place on Saturday, November 29th from 10am to 4pm.
